Some Classrooms to View President Obama's Speech on Education

The district did not show the President's speech on the first day of school. We feel it is important to get the school year off to a smooth start. The first few days of school are busy as we teach routines and as teachers and students adjust to the rhythms of the school day. Also, at the high school only freshmen were in attendance on Tuesday and only 7th graders were in attendance at our middle schools.

We recorded the President's speech and are encouraging teachers to view it with their students. The speech has a positive message about the value of education and the need for students to assume personal responsibility for their learning.

Families play an important role in shaping a student's attitude towards education. To that end, if students view the speech at school we encourage parents to discuss it with them at home. This can be a great opportunity for schools and parents to work together to help students foster positive attitudes about education and to help them accept personal responsibility for getting the most out of school.
