Dr. Julie Lerwick Chong

Bio: 

Dr. Julie Lerwick Chong is a Nationally Certified Counselor specializing in individual, child, adolescent and family therapy. She is passionate about bridging the gap between medicine and mental health by working to erase stigmas around mental illness through educating the general public.  Dr. Lerwick Chong earned a PhD in Counseling with specialized research in Medical Play Therapy with chronically ill children and their families, from Oregon State University. She holds a Masters degree in Counseling from George Fox University and a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry from Puget Sound Christian College. She has extensive training in child and adolescent therapy.  Giving back to the community is important to Dr. Lerwick Chong. She is an adjunct professor at local universities and enjoys teaching and mentoring beginning counselors. Children have a very special place in her heart, and she volunteers with the Children’s Cancer Association providing mentorship and companionship to children undergoing chemotherapy treatment and also at a homeless shelter in Vancouver, WA.  The stories of people captivate Dr. Lerwick Chong and challenge her in the way that she thinks and experiences the world. It is her belief that hope is available to all people. She enjoys talking with people from all walks of life and is interested in what has shaped them into the people they are today—and that’s why she loves her job as a therapist & professor! In her leisure time she enjoys all forms of outdoor activities including kayaking, running and hiking.
